What Editors Actually Look For in the First Page
Most desk rejections happen before the argument begins. A short account of what the first page has to accomplish.
Pin cites are not optional. An unpinned citation to a two-hundred-paragraph judgment is an assertion, not a reference.
Parallel citations should follow the order set out in the style sheet, and should be consistent throughout.
Secondary sources belong in the footnote, not the text, unless the author is themselves the subject of the argument.
